Two of the old houses were demolished to make way for this block.
The three then empty shops on the left have all changed rapidly. From the left the first has been Nanitos Drug Store, Discount Drug Store, Mad Max and is now Clearance Store. The second was originally A & E Furnishing, and latterly Best Fish and Chips and Seabell Fish & Chips, . The Third was originally Washeteria launderette; it is now Best Wishes card shop.
Vye and Son were the first occupantsof the next shop; this became Liptons who took over Vye's business. It was later split into two, one half eventually became Peters Produce then Bunches greengrocers, and the other half  the Cancer Research charity shop.
A corner of the garden wall of the next old house can be seen - this was soon demolished to make way for the block now containing  Ferris chemist & post office..
